Weather Forecast for Wimbledon Tennis 2017

Wimbledon 2017 tennis grand slam tournament is an perfect sign of reminding us that summer has arrived. Wimbledon will take place between July 3 and July 16.

British number one Andy Murray will be defending his men's singles after he won it against Milos Raonic last year.

His fans will be hoping that he can lift the trophy once again this July as Wimbledon returns.

Plus he will also face competition from favourites Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic at this year's tournament.

In 2016, Serena Williams secured her seventh win - which equalled her for the record number of single titles at 22 in total.

But the US star won't be competing in 2017, owing to her pregnancy.

This year is the 131st year that the All England Lawn Tennis Club will host the Wimbledon championships.

Before packing your picnic basket, check the Wimbledon weather forecast.

Wimbledon has 19 grass courts where spectators will watch the men's and women's singles, as well as the doubles competitions, youth competitions and wheelchair matches.

Fans who were not lucky enough to get Wimbledon tickets for centre court or court one will be queuing for a chance to see some of the action on the other courts. They'll also be watching the games on Murray Mound where big screens show the action from the centre court - possibly with a glass of Pimms and some strawberries and cream.

Johnny Perkins, Head of Communications, explains how the weather affects their planning for the Wimbledon championships and the ideal weather they hope for.

In previous years the event has been so badly affected by the weather the tournament has gone into a third week. The referee will make the decision as to when to cover the courts. The sooner they are covered the quicker the court will dry out and play can resume at Wimbledon.

The Met Office says: "A continuation of the rather cool, changeable or unsettled weather looks most likely at first.

"Warm and largely dry spells of weather can be expected at times, interspersed with more unsettled conditions.

"There will be the ongoing risk of thundery outbreaks too.

"Temperatures are likely to gradually recover to be near normal for the time of year, perhaps with some very warm or even hot spells.

"There are weak signals for more settled conditions towards the end of the period, but confidence for this is currently very low."

Wimbledon 2017: Armed police to form ring of steel following terror attacks in London

Wimbledon 2017 is starting from 3rd july next month. It is expected that Armed police and roadblocks will form a ring of steel around the Wimbledon next month in the wake of deadly terrorist attacks in Manchester and London in recent weeks.

Nearly 500,000 people are expected to visit Wimbledon over the 14-day tournament, where Andy Murray will bid to retain his crown.

The terrorist atrocities to strike London, Manchester and other major cities in the past year have prompted the All England Club and Metropolitan Police to take unprecedented steps to prevent the biggest event in tennis falling victim to a suicide bomber or vehicle attack.

Police are also reportedly planning a similar lockdown at the London 2017 athletics event, the British F1 Grand Prix, golf's Open Championship and Royal Ascot .

This will be the biggest security crackdown in the prestigious Grand Slam event’s 140-year history.

For the first time at Wimbledon, checkpoints will be stationed on the roads surrounding the grounds to restrict vehicle access, with a “dedicated deployment” of armed officers also on duty during the Championships.

The proximity of roads to the gates through which half a million spectators are expected to flood between July 3-16 makes the Championships especially vulnerable to the kind of attacks to strike London Bridge on Saturday night, Westminster Bridge barely two months earlier and the likes of Nice, Berlin and Stockholm in the last year.

Talking about the security plan for the Wimbledon, London Metropolitan Police told Daily Telegraph,“We will not discuss specific security arrangements that will form part of our policing operation. However, in light of recent events, including the attack in Manchester, the operation has been and will continue to be, thoroughly reviewed.
“A range of tactics will be put in place, some highly visible, including enhanced physical security and some that the public will not notice, which includes a dedicated deployment of armed officers.

Wimbledon 2017 Prize Money Rises to £31.6M

Last Year Andy Murray earned £2m for his straight-sets defeat of Milos Raonic in the 2016 final but today wimbledon organisers announced a 10 percent hike in prize money of Wimbledon 2017 which makes it £2.2 million for both the men’s and ladies’ singles winners..

The singles champions at Wimbledon 2017 will pocket £2.2 million in prize money each. The prize pot for this year’s championships, which run from July 3-16, has risen overall by  12.5 per cent from £28.1m to £31.6m in the past 12 months.

In percentage terms, first round losers benefit the most. Their prize money of £35,000 is almost 17 per cent higher than last year, reflecting the club's commitment to the lower reaches of tennis.

It means the total prize money — a record for this Grand Slam — is now more than double the £14.6m available to players at the tournament six years ago.

Philip Brook, chairman of the AELTC and the championships, said: “We are proud of the important leadership that Wimbledon plays locally, nationally and internationally, and are committed to continuing to invest to secure the future of the championships and of our sport for the years to come.”

Wimbledon officials also said they have been working closely with the Metropolitan Police “to ensure that security measures at the championships are comprehensive and proportionate to the threat level in the UK”.

Semi-finalist £550k
